The Record

  1. Ledger · 1857

    The First Ledger

The Paperson fortune enters the record on a single ruled page. Beneath the first entry, in a careful hand, the family writes the words it will repeat for generations: Rolling in Wealth Since 1857.

  2. Report · 1871

    The Crest Is Commissioned

A crown, a wreath of gold laurel, three fleurs-de-lis, and at the center of it all the object the family owes everything to. The goldsmith’s invoice survives. His opinion of the design does not.

  3. Portrait · 1889

    Portrait of Toiletticus Paperson

    Painted likeness of Toiletticus Paperson
    T. Paperson, oil on canvas. Attributed to LeMOF (opens in a new tab).

The earliest surviving likeness of Toiletticus Paperson. The painter’s notes describe the sitter’s eyebrows as “a matter of considerable ambition” and his expression as “unreadable, possibly amused.”

  4. Report · 1903

    The Quiet Years

Toiletticus disappears from the society pages. The estate goes quiet. Staff report only one thing worth writing down: low sounds from the east wing at night, steady as a heartbeat, felt in the floorboards more than heard.

  5. Transmission · 2025

    The Signal Returns

The low frequencies return, traced this time to a modern studio. The recordings carry no family name, only a signature: imTP.

    The Estate Reopens

A gilded frame on the estate's striped wallpaper, holding the cover of I'm Feeling Good

The House of Paperson opens its archives to the public. The first transmission from the reopened estate is “I’m Feeling Good.” Its portrait now hangs in the east wing, in the family’s finest frame.
